Cadbury Orange Creme Egg
First of all, a confession. I love Cadbury Creme Eggs. Love ‘em. I get so excited every year when they begin appearing in the stores. I buy them, then scurry home (or just to the car), unwrap the shiny foil, then bite off the top and lick out all the gooey, heart-racingly, nerve-buzzingly, teeth-achingly sweetness of the center, then polish off the chocolate. By the time Easter rolls around, I’ve eaten my fill for the year and, quite honestly, have no desire to see them again for another year. I don’t know why I love them – normally, I don’t like excessively sweet candy. All I can figure is that this was one of my special treats of childhood, something I grew up on, so that allows my brain to override my good senses. It’s one of those candies that people either love or hate. There is precious little middle ground.
This year, for the first time, there is an orange variation on the classic, and it’s… well, it’s quite nice, really. I think most of the flavoring is in the chocolate. The creme itself has a fairly subtle candy-orange flavor to it, while the chocolate is not subtle at all. Think of one of those candy oranges you smack against the counter to break it into segments. It’s that kind of orange. Other than that, it’s pretty much what you would expect – a fondant creme center with a yellow “yolk” and white, um, “white.”
If you don’t like the regular creme eggs, you won’t like this. If you do, give it a shot. If you’re diabetic, please, for the love of God, don’t go within a hundred meters of it.
