Wonka Golden Creme Egg
This is, and I quote, “chocolate creme and caramel with graham-flavored cookie pieces in a milk chocolate shell.” That’s a lot of stuff in an egg. Unfortunately, when you open it, it has a big Nestle printed on the chocolate, which kind of disrupts the Wonka illusion. Couldn’t they have printed Wonka on it instead?
The center is a thick plug of fairly solid chocolate creme with lots of little cookie pieces rolled into it. The caramel is fairly liquid, and tends to run towards the bottom when you’re handling the thing, so watch out for that last bite. I didn’t have a problem with it being too messy, but the last bite broke the chocolate shell and I had to hurry to keep the caramel from going everywhere. What surprised me was that this wasn’t extremely sweet, but had a nice sweet-salt combination. I wasn’t expecting that, but it works really well. I think it’s funny that this is a golden creme egg, and the creme is brown (I know, I know, it’s a thin connection with the wrapper). It’s also funny that this has a salty-sweet taste, when it’s actually lower in sodium than many other chocolates. The cinnamon and molasses in the cookie pieces may be coming into play there.
