Frey Japonais
First of all, two pieces of good news. One, I got my CT scan back and, while my head still hurts, there’s no damage done. Two, we got rain! For those of you who have not been attentively following the weather news on southern Indiana, we’re having a drought. We haven’t had a good, drenching rain in a long, long time. Still haven’t, actually – it was more rumble and blow than rain, but there are puddles on the ground and that makes me happy.
Frey Japonais is a milk chocolate bar, with a meringue biscuit and hazelnut center. The chocolate, as I have begun to expect from Frey, is smooth, creamy and sweet. It is a Swiss milk chocolate, which means it is milky and mild. The real star, though, is the hazelnuts. There is little difference in the texture of the center and the outside, so it all blends together well. The gianduja is rich and nutty. I liked the addition of the crisps – they were a nice textural counterpoint, and added a bit more substance to something that could otherwise be a firm version of Nutella.
I’ve tried Frey bars before, and have been pleased each time. They’re also some of the less expensive gourmet chocolate bars, and are readily available at Target, which makes them quite convenient. Now they need to start stocking Frey Tourist. Yummy stuff.
