Nerds Bumpy Jellybeans

I thought I should get to a seasonal candy before the season is almost over.  This seems like a good day for something bright – the sun was out all day!  This doesn’t seem like much, but we’ve had a grey sky and snow, sleet and rain for the last two weeks.  It’s starts to sap your energy after a while.

Non-candy related – I went to Indiana University’s Cyclotron facility today.  They were initially built to do nuclear physics using proton beams and materials testing for NASA.  They’re still doing materials testing and nuclear physics, but now their focus is on using proton beams in medicine to treat cancer in a way that is safer and more effective with fewer side-effects than radiation.  It’s one of a handful of centers in the US, and only around twenty centers in the world.  It’s funny to think this is in a bland, nondescript building in the woods, across the street from the stadium.

Nerds Bumpy Jelly Beans smell like, well, Nerds.  The pieces are nubbly, but fairly smooth in the mouth.  Most jelly beans have a waxy coating, seperate from the chewy interior.  In some jelly beans, that is the only part that is flavored.  These aren’t really crunchy like regular Nerds, which have hard lumps of sugar under a thick coat of carnauba wax.  These are easily chewed, and very flavorful.  Before you break the shell, it’s sweet and fruity.  Once you start chewing, it’s tart and tangy, much of it coming from the flavored center.

They’re kind of strange, but if you like normal Nerds, you’ll like these.  I can definitely see these being popular with kids.

I hesitated (and ended up passing them up) the last time I saw them, but after reading some reviews on a few blogs including yours, I had to try them. Wow, they are great! I’m ashamed to say that I finished off the bag in a few days. ;)

Yep, no worries. I remember that song – it hasn’t gotten any better with age. I’m ignoring the rest.
