Twixels
I took a picture of these, but I haven’t downloaded them yet. Something about papers and class and such. Getting closer and closer to the end… speaking of which, or rather, entirely unrelated to it, this is the weekend for Little 500 here in Bloomington, IN. Little five is a big deal around here, the biggest party weekend – it eclipses March Madness parties. Ludakris is performing tonight, there are two concerts tomorrow of Soulja Boy and Young Jeezy at the same time – which happens to be the time I’m getting out of class four blocks away.
I’m looking forward to it.
In case you can’t parse the dry sarcasm of that comment, I’m not. Little five is a bike race. Women race on Friday and men on Saturday. The racers are mostly teams from different Greek houses and dorms, etc. If you’ve ever watched Breaking Away, it’s about Little 5. It’s a lot of fun to watch if you know the area, because they go past a lot of local landmarks – a lot of the Kirkwood backgrounds have changed in the last ten years. I’m okay with most of the changes, they’ve tried to keep them in character for Bloomington’s downtown, but I don’t realize how much change there’s been until I see how it was.
Anyway, Twixels. Twixels are Twix bars shrunk down to a 35 calorie size. They’re roughly cigarette sized, maybe a bit shorter (having no cigarettes for comparison). They come in three flavors: triple chocolate, French vanilla and caramel. Triple chocolate is a chocolate cookie, chocolate-flavored caramel and dark chocolate covering, French vanilla is milk chocolate with vanilla flavored cookie and caramel, and caramel is the same cookie-caramel-milk chocolate as the big bar.
The vanilla in the French vanilla is perhaps a little too vanilla, but not astonishingly so. I wasn’t overly fond of the triple chocolate. It’s kind of bland, with a surprisingly thin chocolate taste. It’s a little less sweet, but not a whole lot. I like the traditional best – it’s got the best combination of flavors.
The texture of the Twixlets are a little different than the normal size, as are the proportions. It’s a roughly even mix of caramel, chocolate and cookie, while the larger bar has proportionally less chocolate than the centers. The cookie is lighter and more crumbly, probably because it’s a lot thinner. I like the big ones, but these are nice if you don’t want to eat too much, or if you want something to put out for a party.
